First, I A.) Do not think this is the governments place and B.) Do not believe you can force everyone on the planet to agree and the internet is world wide. A web server can be located anywhere.
I also have a problem with this;
"Something they should be concentrating on is not letting the sickos who get caught doing this kind of thing out of jail at all.
I don't want to hear about how they served their time for their crime. If they are truly guilty of doing something like that to a child why should they be let out at all? Because they are 'reformed'? Bullsheets. The sickos that do this cr@p to children have stolen their innocence. And in a lot of cases put those children in a kind of prison themselves."
Isn't that true of everyone that takes advantage of children? How about the crack dealer that has 12 years selling their bodies for $$$? How about the abusive person that makes every waking moment of a childs life a terror? How about the... well the list goes on for quite a ways. Don't you believe these things steals their innocence just as much? Do we lock up everyone that does something to a child for life?
Back on topic...
Ok, I understand your a mother with a child, just like millions of parents. But your child does not count more than I or anyone else does. When the governemnt starts singling out groups of people and telling them how they are allowed to live its SCARY because the one thing you can absolutely bet every nickle you have is that they will expand it to include other groups.
Be honest, if you have studied governments and history at all you know the one thing you can not do is allow them to start trading one persons freedom for anothers. That is the road to complete disaster. Every horendous abuse of government policing power started out "defending" someone from another someone.
There are so many ways a parent can monitor what is happeing "on line". Putting a key logger, site limits, nanny ware, whatever on a PC and being up front and telling your child its there is a GOOD thing. Children NEED to know they are being monitored. Unless of course you feel you can trust your childs judgement in which case there is no issue.
No, my responce to all of this is that parents have many ways available to them to be parents (including limiting access) and the government needs to step back. - Posted by: No_Ax_to_Grind Posted on: 08/03/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
