I am all for tougher laws on these kinds of things. I absolutely am for it.
I have a huge problem with this statement though:
>>"It's an uphill battle for parents trying to protect their kids from viewing inappropriate programming," Pryor said in a statement. "I believe there is a whole new generation of technology that can provide an additional layer of help for these parents."<<
I didn't know these social networking sites were considered programming at all. That aside the government is taking too much of the responsibility off of the shoulders of the parents themselves.
As a Mother I fully understand that you can't see what your kids are doing 24/7 and I totally sympathize. But these types of laws seem to cater to parents who let their children plunk down in front of the computer and have no clue what they are doing on it.
This database seems like a good idea but that is all that it seems to be. How is it going to work in actuality? Probably not very well at all. Something they should be concentrating on is not letting the sickos who get caught doing this kind of thing out of jail at all.
I don't want to hear about how they served their time for their crime. If they are truly guilty of doing something like that to a child why should they be let out at all? Because they are 'reformed'? Bullsheets.
The sickos that do this cr@p to children have stolen their innocence. And in a lot of cases put those children in a kind of prison themselves. A lot of them have their lives ruined or go on to become offenders themselves. Call it an eye for an eye if you will but there is no reason in my book that they should be let out in the first place.
ANd I am not talking about 17 year old Johnny who got caught diddling with his 15 year old girlfriend in the backseat of his car.
