forget the feds for a sec-- baseball stadium 1, deficient bridge repair 0
Let's leave the federal funding issue aside for a moment....

Is the irony lost on everyone that many of those on the bridge that collapsed were heading over to the twins ballpark-- the same ballpark that was to have a ground breaking ceremony for the NEW taxpayer paid-for baseball park the next day!
Yep, its was decided that rather than repair a bridge that was declared deficient in the 1990s, it would be a much better use of tax payer money to buy the BILLIONAIRE owner of the twins a brand new multi-million $ baseball park who will then turn around and raise ticket prices for the taxpayers that paid for the stadium so that it costs a family of 4 say $400 to go to a game. And lets not forget, all the while, claiming poverty, while charging $5 for a chickenlips hotdog and $10 for a diluted P*** warm beer. Break out the violins.

Now I don't have the details handy... i don't know if the good citizens of Minnesota got to vote on that expenditure or if the pandering slobbering politicians were falling over themselves to "give" the billionaire a new stadium (and therefore guarantee themselves a big fat campaign donation)-- but either way it's INSANE.

First, when did it become incumbent on taxpayers to fund sports arenas? Are we really supposed to believe that team owners "can't afford" to maintain their stadiums? Or are we lemmings so lame and addicted to sports to much that we will trade anything just to keep a team from threatening to move?

Second, no matter who wanted to give the poor billionaire a new stadium, where is the he** was federal government on mandating minimum safety requirements for the nations bridges? It should have been ILLEGAL to have a deficient rating for so long with no action to fix it even started.

Then if the good citizens of Minnesota WANT to pay for BOTH the bridge AND the stadium... it's up to them. But to be able to choose (whoever did the choosing) a stadium over a bridge should be a crime.

Politicians don't even bother to hide or camouflage their proclivities anymore. They do whatever they want, whenever they want, and then just lie about it afterwards. And I mean lie-- they don't spin the truth, twist the truth, or stretch the truth anymore like they used to. The look right into the camera or the eyes of whoever they are talking to and lie, plain and simple. ("No, I promise you, the sky is in fact, not blue, you are mistaken").

And why not.. they've figured out that we're now such a bunch of apathetic lemmings that no matter what they say or do, all they have to do to fix it is run an attack ad on the challenger at election time and we automatons will stroll right up to the voting both (thats if we even bother to get off our barca-loungers while American Idol is on) and vote them in again.

Our collective apathy has turned this country into haven for corporate interests and the wealthy. Its a damn shame, nothing matters anymore but the almighty dollar. And we have only ourselves to blame.
