Elephant In the Room; Civil War; Slavery; Monopoly
War comparisons are appropriate. For many years our nation rewarded politicians and government employees with plumb jobs if they could keep the elephant in the room from materializing when there were discussions involving the course the nation would be taking.

Back then the elephant was named Slavery and the reason for keeping the elephant invisible, for keeping silent, was the potential for the federal government to be disbanded over that one issue of morality.

Eventually it took a civil war to keep the federal government intact. But prior to that the notion that it was our manifest destiny to control the real estate from sea to shining sea keep the big issue of slavery from destroying the central government.

Today the elephant is called monopoly or mult-national corporate interest and it has been the burden of our industry - the IT industry - to deal with this huge issue alone. It is my belief that our manifest destiny to control the real estate known as the dot commons from sea to shining sea can keep this big issue of from destroying the central government.

There is no grater peace time justification for a federal government than universal access to the Information Super Highway. It can be done at little cost if we do not allow it to be sold because the air waives currently used for broadband TV - all the towers and infrastructure - are already in place. With this universal access, comes the tools to deal with the bigger issue - multi-national corporations AKA monopolies and oil Kingdoms.
