Yet another...

... wannabe myth buster that can't quite get it right. That is NOT what the extremely dated Hurt report said. The entire statement, and the only statement in the Hurt report regarding this subject, is, "Motorcycles with loud exhausts are over represented in the study."

No definition is given for "loud". No additional information is given. Simply put, anybody that has spent any time with statistical study absolutely knows better than to attempt to draw any conclusion, linear or otherwise, from such a statement.

Sound does not travel linearly. Particularly the lower frequencies, the frequencies involved in exhaust notes. In fact, you contradict yourself in your post. If the sound only traveled in line behind the bike, it would bother no one except those traveling behind them on the road.

You do, however, make good points regarding educating the driving public to make a conscious effort to look for others on the road, and that riders need to continue exercising their wits and training to survive.
