Battery disposal is what I worry about, but if properly recycled that can be a green process too.

It is also a FACT that power generated by power plants for charging an electric vehicle is considerly less polluting than directly powering the vehicle by burning gasoline. That point is covered nicely in "Who killed the electric car?", which is a film that every American should see.
