copyright has been taken to extremes
For example:

If I perform a song in church, I have to buy the music, then buy a license to perform that music, then keep a record of the music performed so that I can report to the licensing body that it has been performed. If I buy an accompaniment track which is produced for the sole purpose of performing, I have to purchase all of the above, but if I want to record the service in which such music is performed to sent to my shut ins, I must either pause the recording when such music is performed, or I must buy a sync license and some other license that allow me to record the music performed along with the accompaniment track and to duplicate my service onto media that my housebound people can listen to. Who is using who?

According to modern writers, if I like a piece of poetry, and would like to forward it to someone to stimulate their thoughts or for them simply to enjoy, I must first pay the author for the privilege of sharing. I cannot even save the poem to my computer for the purpose of reading it again fifteen minutes later. EVEN if the poem is plastered all over the internet.

If you don't believe this, google for a poem called "The Dash". Read the poem. It's greatly thought provoking. Then find the authors take on her intellectual property rights.

It used to be when I was a kid that a person wanting to commit your writing to memory was a high compliment, and keeping a copy in your notebook was fair use.

This mess is insane. It's cripling communication. Soon someone will own rights to every word speakable. Then I suppose they will start copyrighting motions.
