How do you save RAM contents, anyway?
I'm genuinely interested, and haven't seen any information about this: How do you save RAM contents? Do they really mean just the RAM (/dev/mem) or do they mean virtual memory, i.e. gigabytes of address spaces for running processes? What about a closed OS like Windows where you can't get this information? Is the court really going to go through a memory dump, using i386 virtual memory registers to reconstruct which pages of memory belong to which process address spaces? How would they know what the internal data structure layout is? I guess you could reverse-engineer structure layouts in an open source tool like apache, but what about closed source? Or is this just a ruling by someone who had no idea what he or she was asking? This would be a good follow-up story, to give us more information.
