Actually..

you just need to keep an open mind.

Some years ago I worked on a large country wide EPOS system in the UK.

We had persistant reports in some locations of what became known as "ghost transactions" where a PC would "sell" products all by itself, and we even had one shop where the PC's had to be replaced regularly because the boards/cpu's would blow after a day or so.

Now a lot of the shop people involved were over 50 and the natural inclination was to think "they imagined it", that was until one of our engineers was standing with somone when it happened.

Turned out all of these shops were near strong electrical/magnetic sources such as railway lines, generators, and in the case of the blown circuits the office was surrounded by a wire cage (very tough area!) which acted as a giant faraday cage every time one of the shop workers used his mobile phone.

Investigating "phenomenom" is not a waste of time provided you keep an open mind and investigate all the possibilities, it may not be a ghost but you may still learn something useful.
