I agree
For the type of photography that I enjoy, mostly nature and wildflower shots, a digital SLR is just to bulky. I went through that with 35mm, having 2 bodies and a bag full of lenses doesn't help when they are sitting in the closet because I got tired of lugging heavy equipment with me on hikes. I have had several digitals, all compacts, and have gotten many great shots that I know I would have missed if I had gone the DSLR route. My latest is a Canon S3IS, which offers some manual controls, a good image stabilized mega zoom, and decent resolution in a somewhat compact package. Like all compacts, though, it is only really useful at ISO 100 (image stabilization at least partially compensates for this) and doesn't offer RAW support.

If a camera company can solve the issue of digital noise and low speed with the small sensors, then many of us will be interested in their product. Until then, all of our choices involve compromise.
