Some people don't see that as a downside
I think it's silly looking to hold the camera out and compose images on the LCD, but you don't have much choice on point and shoot cameras since the viewfinders are often so inaccurate.

But if looking like an idiot is important to you, there are DSLRs out there, such as those made by Olympus, with live view on the LCD.

The bottom line is that an SLR-style compact camera sounds like an oxymoron to me.
