idealistic but maybe misguided
I am not quire sure what they mean by "putting a laptop in the hands of every child so they can learn" - this might sound a wonderful gesture but the reality is that even a $100 laptop will be way out of sight for the worlds poorest children. Lets say for a moment though that they find the funds to get around the problem and they do achieve it - how long before the children begin to use the laptop to view the rest of the world and realise that they have been given a cut down version of what kids from average earners in the US and UK take for granted. This of course assumes their parents dont sell it to buy food or pay the rent!

It seems nowadays that put the word "kids" in and everyone gets the feelgood factor but whilst I dont doubt the motivation of the people concerned I wonder where this is going and what effect it will have.

I just think it is a rather sad world that sees a laptop or computer as some kind of top priority for deprived children
