Industry Needs dictate services/local install usage
I hope there is not an industry rush to judgement as far as the use of internet software services versus the traditional local install of PC software. The disaster recovery needs of any company or user will dictate which form of siftware will need to be installed.

For example: if there is a catastrophe such as severe storm such as hurricane Katrina that severed internet comuunications lines for several weeks to vital police, fire, medical, or emergency staff, then the "software as a service" model fails because there is service interruption that will not work. A hard wired local are network with locally installed software is the best and safeest way to go to restore temp local service through electric generators.

The bottom line is that the use of software as a service assumes uninterrupted connections that never really happen in the real world. Companies, businesses, and government groups need to be mindful of this fact for disaster recovery when the network connection goes down and they need quick access to vital information.
