That's a viable alternative? I can just picture having to stop for 10 minutes every time I need a recharge while traveling.

On the whole though, I agree with your post. We need to find a replacement to the internal combustion engine, not just a replacement for petroleum based fuel. Unfortunately, there just isn't anything quite ready to do that. For now, an interim step of diesel/hybrid technology that also allowed for a plug-in recharge makes the most sense IMHO. Eventually, the diesel could be replaced with whatever becomes the next generation generator.
