Oh joy, another pointless article...
Right on! We need to hear, yet one more time, just in case it hasn't been made clear enough to us, that computer technology 30+ years ago paled in comparison to the computers we have today, and that computer technology will improve even more in the next 30+ years. I really wouldn't have suspected that at all if this article hadn't said it!

Besides, Moore's Law is nonsense and anyone who still cites it as meaningful today needs to catch a clue. Intel had 3 GHz Pentium 4s about a year ago, and today their fastest P4s are still 3.4 GHz. For Moore's Law to still be true, there'll need to be a 6+ GHz chip by the end of 2004. Face it, Moore's Law is way ahead of us, and we're not keeping up with it anymore.

Since this article has nothing new to say, I might as well post some commentary which you've all heard before as well. A majority of computer users don't need the computing power described in this article; My current desktop is not a top-of-the-line model, yet it does everything I need it to do fast enough to satisfy me. Chances are, the same is true for your computer too. There are only a relative minority of users who need more power than is currently available on the market, usually people doing serious graphics work or gamers. But gamers are abandoning the PC and moving to consoles like the Xbox; Games are no longer driving the development of PC hardware like they did in the 1990s.
