A nicer reply this time...
?My SUV will easily go 500,000 miles, and then can be rebuilt. ? ? So can electric vehicles. Difference is they don't consume the following or require extensive maintenance:

1 ? Anti-Freeze : Cooling systems need to be flushed a minimum of every 2 years (if you want to keep you cooling system in top shape and not have issues with leaks in 5 years time.)

2 ? Oil: Doesn't matter what kind either, still has to be changed, still has to be disposed of. Recommend is 3,000 miles for mineral based oils, 7,500 ? 10,000 for synthetics... unless you have a self cleaning filtration system that pre-heats the oil to 180F for total particle separation then cools it to an operating temperature of 140F.

3 ? Gasoline or Diesel: Sure there is bio-diesel, but you drive a Hummer, that burns GASOLINE, at 1 gallon per 9 miles on a good day. WOW! Now that is efficiency! (Uh, that was sarcasm in case you didn't get it.)

4 ? Timing chains / belts: On V-8's generally it's a timing chain and for the most part, they will last the life of the engine... BUT they do break or stretch, thereby reducing your engines efficiency by throwing the mechanical timing off. 1 degree can make the difference between 2-5MPG... something to think about.

5 ? Fan belts: These do break and they also stretch as well as need regular replacing. Snap one of these in the middle of a hot day... unless you are lucky and shut down in time, kiss your heads good-bye, drive with a blown head gasket, kiss your engine good-bye.

6 ? Spark plugs / wires (ignition components): All wear out and need replacing. Don't keep them in top working condition, you lose power AND efficiency.

I can go on if you like...

?Most Prius will only last about 100,000, and then have to be thrown away.

Bzzt! Wrong! Try again!. There are many Prius's out there with over 250,000 miles on them. And they are on the original battery packs. Read up

Most solar electrical panels are only rated for five years of use, and then must be replaced.

Wrong again Bevis! Try lifespans of 40 years! With a 20 year warranty on most. Study up, you are obviously clueless and prone to Foxitis, that is believing everything that Fox news says.

If the solar panels are heating water, then there is yearly maintenance to keep them in shape, plus replacing them after five to ten years of use.

WRONG again! UC Santa Cruz has several apartments with solar panels that heat water, they have been there since the mid 80's and are still functional. Annual maintenance is nothing more than inspecting connections and verifying nothing is loosening up. You can hire the original installer to do it for you... at a reasonable price. Where the f*** are you getting this 5 year bulls**t?

If you are using the new light bulbs that save energy, then you have to be very careful how they are disposed of, because they all contain mercury.

WRONG AGAIN! The original CFL's did indeed have mercury in them, but the newer ones out there now contain so little that they pose no immediate threat, like say a full length florescent tube! Also they come in different color spectrum for better lighting quality. Also the old hum that some would whine about has been taken care of as well. I support the green movement by eating a lot of beef, thus ridding the world of some of those flatulent cows. I'm also setting up a homemade still for recycling environmentalists into biofuels.

Riiight.... devil
