Because we are actually headed for a drought this year. Our annual rainfall is is well below normal for this time of year!.

"Cal Am urges water conservation
The San Lorenzo Valley and Santa Cruz Mountains are facing their lowest rainfall in 17 years, according to Evan Jacobs of California American Water.
Cal Am, which provides water to about 1,350 customers in Felton, is mailing a letter to customers urging conservation. The company provides free water-saving devices such as low-flow hose nozzles, showerheads and faucet aerators at its Felton office.
Rainfall in the San Lorenzo Valley has totaled 26.99 inches since October. If the dry weather continues for the rest of the year, rainfall in the San Lorenzo Valley will be less than 30 inches ? about 56 percent of the average annual rainfall of 50 inches. The last time annual rainfall was below 30 inches was the 1989-90, when 28.32 inches of rain fell." Source
Pay close attention to the 13 and 14th... TOTALLY unusual weather for this time of year! On campus at the heat plant we saw 98F. outside air dry bulb! We aren't due for that kind of weather for another 2 months!
All the rivers and lakes are feet, yes FEET below their normal levels. Snow fall in areas like Big Bear, were not only late, but almost insufficient to provide a good base for snowboarding and skiing. Denial is the recourse of the un-educated. Around the world strange weather patterns are being recorded. Global warming is a proven scientific fact, there are plenty of geologic sites proving this is something that occurs... and what's better yet, a regular cycle has been pretty much been established and where the cycle breaks, world shattering events have been linked to show how pollution and excess CO2 can drop planetary temperatures drastically.
So keep telling yourself the lie if you wish. But it costs no more to be green than it does not too. But the returns on the investment are far greater than not.
Cost of bicycle: $1,600.00
Cost of cycle safety gear: $345.00
Not getting sick: Priceless.
What I spend in a one time spree, I would have spent 3 times over in a year in gas, oil and insurance. What I gain? Better health, better sex, better performance in my job, lower insurance rates, reduced fuel bill... What do I lose? Nothing! That is just with the car! I have a home that is off grid, I provide power to PG&E everyday. I was in the position to buy it outright... it can happen. I see it EVERY DAY!
