But I actually DO TRUST ZDNet...
Not that they DON'T collect information on me... I KNOW they do... I KNOW they use cookies with me, just like every other website does. I KNOW they target me with a few advertising emails via CNET... But I get SEVERAL of their different CNet and ZDNet daily and weekly emails chock full of links to interesting and informative articles like this for every ONE that has ads for a few products on sale which I might be interested in (not pushy at all, and not NEARLY as many ads as I get from other companies from whom I've purchased products), and I readily accept that as a small cost of the valuable service I get from them by being kept apprised of just about everything relevant going on in the computer world.

HOWEVER, I'm also AWARE all this is going on, and even, I think, at some point they said they might send me ads (they might not have, but they don't send enough to be a bother, so I don't complain).

And I DO see that as being quite different from PAYING for downloaded music and NOT being informed that it will have your personal information included on it in a way YOU might not see, but that others with more knowledge easily COULD.

I've LONG thought the prices for recorded music were way too high... When this idea first came along that people could finally go back to buying "singles" again via web downloads for just 99 cents, it seemed reasonable to me (although nothing I was too interested in, since I get all the music I care to hear on the radio and off Music Choice on cable, and buy very few CDs any more... When the iPods and so forth came out, they didn't really appeal to me, as I don't care to carry around something extry strapped to my body with earphones on, anyway, and then when I found out all about DRM (almost entirely through ZDNet articles), well, that just sealed the deal...

I DO own the "pro" version of Quicktime, however, since it's just $30 and lets me save and edit movies, and that includes iTunes, which I care NOTHING ABOUT... But just the other day, along with an upgrade they notified me via a really SLICK looking ad on my computer about the new DRM-free $1.29 iTunes, and the notification said NOTHING about this "Watermarking."

All I have to say is, SHAME ON APPLE!
PERIOD!!!
