MPEG 4 AAC
I just want to make it clear that AAC is not a creation of Apple. MPEG 4 AAC was made by the same group that created MPEG 1 Layer 3 , also known as MP3, as a replacement for MP3. Apple is an early adapter of MPEG 4 AAC but other companies are now using AAC. I believe that if you convert your DRM encoded AAC files that you bought from the iTunes Music Store the DRM and other ID information would not be included in the new converted file.
