---The basic idea is that if someone steals your iPod they now also get your address.---

No, they get your name and e-mail address. Although since the iPod can hold your contacts list, they might be able to get your info from that, even if you have no songs from iTunes on it. Or, perhaps they could figure out where you live from the photos you've stored on your iPod. Seems like much ado about nothing.

Seems to me you're arguing against having identification at all. Why drive a car if there's a registration in the glove box that has your name and address on it? Far too dangerous a practice, I assume.
