(Patching a windows box is far _FAR_ more of a b1tch than a Linux, no testimonials from pompom carrying MS fanboys, please).

Actually not so much true anymore. Check out Autopatcher (www.autopatcher.com). Nice utility. I have a cd that includes the following for new WinXP installs:

AutoPatcher
Microsoft XP patch 1.1b (or something)
Tiny Personal Firewall (2.0 free version)
Mcafee Antivirus

The last two are bonus. People have preferences. Anyhow, setting up a good firewall in Linux with iptables is not fun. What? Theres ga raphical easy-to-use software for Linux to do this? Try to find one that works on all distros. Antivirus : nothing reputable. Update manager: everyone does this different and some distros dont do it at all.

Im a fan of Linux but it HAS to get its act together in the security department. To date its been lucky. That luck WILL run out.
