Risks of Going Green
Devil's Advocate: One of the possible cautions is economic contraction: if indeed everyone goes green, consumer spending is whittled back, there is less net debt and therefore less credit extended. Sustainability is enhanced, but consumption and overseas currency support (feeding the deficit spending addiction of both consumers and the U.S. Treasury, might be forced to seek alternative investments - or worse, intervene if their own economy, which relies on U.S. deficit spending is impaired and begins to slow. This is just one way from a macroecon perspective that it could all go wrong, even if sustainability is achieved. But lets hope not.
