- Google, You Tube and Stanford University Network (now SUN) all started as school projects at Stanford. I suspect candidates for mergers small would come from additional school projects and of course a merger with SUN on the large side would be heavenly. Natural monopolies are not illegal. They are natural and often good. It is use of monopoly power that is illegal.
