Less mercury than if we have to build more coal-fired plants.
I agree that the minimal mercury content is an issue, but its the lesser of two evils.
Switching to LED or compact fluorescent bulbs is a very easy method of substantially
reducing energy consumption. If we did nothing, and more coal-fired power plants
are built, those would put out a substantial amount more of mercury. If I lived in
Texas (thank God I don't) I would be horrified that TXU wants to build 12 new coal
fired plants-you want to talk about a mercury problem!?
