Not so fast...
LCDs are not necessarily more efficient than CRTs there are variables in here that come into play on both sides of the equation. I won't even get into the details but rather point out that we take a dangerous precedent when we allow legislation to dictate what we do and do not use rather than free market forces. If the electricity was costing enough that profligate usage is accompanied by profligate expenditure, then people will use the most efficient way to get around, run less lights, use less total energy.

I'm all for efficiency but we have to have an across the board efficiency and replacing one technology with another, mandated by an obviously messed up government, is not the way to accomplish efficiency.

I live in Denver and we have light rail but I have to walk 18 miles to get to the thing. Hardly efficient use of my time. I drive a motorcycle to work and would gladly use an electric car if I could afford such a grand expenditure, but I'm an average joe who can't. In fact even public transportation is out. I'm between DIA and downtown and I have to walk 8 miles to get to the end of the bus system and then I have to transfer three times to get to downtown. Takes over an hour to make a trip that takes 15 minutes with the bike. This is not efficient.
