I also recommend LCDs replace CRTs (and TV sets) given LCDs run cooler and use less energy.

Light rail can replace automobiles when possible; light rail runs on electricity.

Make appliances so when they are OFF they do not use any energy. Right now they all do because they have to keep inbuilt settings (available channels, et al) in memory. Volatile memory that needs to be constantly refreshed. (until flash ROM chips come of age in these devices... that's a free patent for you lot, I'm not fussy nor greedy. I'll do my part to share and share alike.)

Or keep cars and find ways to live closer to work.

We'll still need oil. Nobody's gonna die from being penniless by reducing the quantity of oil we use. We ALL might prosper.

The naysayers can bugger off. Go back to those crackpot political websites, Barney the Oddly-Shaped Dinosaur's blog, or wherever you came from. It's time for optimism and possibilties. Not doom and gloom. Ways DO exist and nobody needs to suffer nor die because of it.
