What about the mercury
I'm all in favor of saving energy. One also has to look at other things than just the end product. Cost of production (energy, materials, chemicals that are hazardous)and disposal. In the case of floresents you have the introducution of mercury into the mix. I would favor LED's and OLED's but even that I am not sure of the overall cost to the environment and disposal / recycle. But these things need to be looked into instead of the glandular approach of "Lets phase out traditional light bulbs." and not care.
