- Numbering scheme based on Plus pack, not Mosaic
- The reason that IE 1 is labeled as version 4.40 is not because it was based on NCSA Mosaic. Rather, it is because it was part of the Windows 95 Plus pack. Windows 95 itself was version 4.0, and everything that came in 95 Plus was marked as 4.40 (including IE, various screensavers, and other utilities). IE 1 and 2 were 4.40.xxx, IE 3 was 4.70, IE 4 was 4.71, IE 4.01 was 4.72, and with IE 5 they finally synced up at 5.0 (and also with the base OS, Windows 2000, which was 5.0). From that point forward, the IE marketing versions have matched the component versions.
