SAP Already Doing So; Death for Microsoft Sql Server
Because of the April 17th delay in a Windows 2000 Oracle 9i patch (now hoped for on April 30th) I advised a manager to prepare to swap out Windows 2000 for Linux. I even found a Linux expert already on the payroll who could support that kind of change. Instead I was told to look for an alternative to Oracle. Lets just assume the relationship with Oracle at this shop isn't very good.

I was not surprised to discover that SAP has a MySQL offering now. This shop recently implemented the SAP payroll model. Curiously Oracle owns the database engine for MySQL so I suppose this move to MySQL is Oracle dominance.

Microsoft's SQL Server product line suffers greatly with this trend. We will of course know more tomorrow when Microsoft's earnings reports are filed
