and then the story went that he didn't know it was illegal cause he's not an accountant or lawyer or some such nonsense.

The public's denouncement of this kind of corporate behavior has reached critical mass and the only thing for Jobs to do is step down, now, and let the law deal with him. I don't suggest he be exposed to a kangaroo court like what was assembled by the Clintons in the 90s, but a real court that will not make a mockery of the law.
