More like realistic based on, personal experiance.

Years ago I went to Haiti along with several engineers and hands on metal workers. (Sponcer was out chruch.) Our goal was to provide fresh drinking water to villigaes where people were dying from drinking river water that was also used as a sewage system for both human and animals.

The hardware (wind mill, tower, pump were donated from various vendors.) We arrived the same day that the well digging truck did and set to work. 3 days later we had a very good well dug with plenty of fresh water for the entire villiage. Another couple days of hard work we had the tower, wind mill, and pump installed and water flowed freely. Everyone was estatic. The following day we moved on to the next villiage. (Our group did this in five villiages in about a month.)

As our camp was semi close to the original villiage (and our air strip) a couple of us took the time to revisit it just to male certain there had been no problems. Care to guess what we found?

The pump had been stripped of all stainless and brass parts. The tower was torn down and the metal sold for scrap, and there was no sign of the wind mill head. And you guessed it, the villiage was once again getting their water from the river.

Of course we asked why. No one had an answer and no one in the villiage seen anything. Big surprise. When we left we asked out guide what he thought had happened. He simply shrugged his shoulders and said, "that's how things are here" and let it go at that.

It was easy to see in his demeanor that he thought we were completely brainless for having even tried.

As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions...
