You're talking about 9x right?
Are you really bringing up this argument? It hasn't been this way in any NT version. Hence the whole "services". Yes, if an application requires user intervention to do what it needs the user has to logon. But in no way do you need to logon to a Windows workstation or server in order to have network functions and services available. What are you smoking?

It amazes me. You're smart enough to use Linux but you don't know the first thing about such a "trivial" OS... The honest truth most likely is you don't know much about Linux either and you just like to spout off for no apparent reason.
