- Mac is a bad example
-
A Mac used to cost 3 times what a PC used to cost. So you can easily see why they lost market share and people kept thier same old MAC for 10+ years. My aunt used he old mac from 1987 till just a few years ago then upgraded to a new Mac. I used my Apple II from 1983 up until 1993 when I got a 386 PC and DOS. It was all cost and it took Microsoft and the x86 PC till 1993 to get the graphic that my Apple II had. At that point buying a Mac for $7000 or buying a PC for $2300 was my choice and the obvious purchase was clear.
Now you have X86 PCs that run Linux or Microsoft OSes. Not really a comparison here. Your PC comes with Windows and if you put Linux on it then it's still counted as a Windows PC for market share. More and more people are installing Linux these days, usually on the older PC that used to run Windows 9X. Linux beats Windows 9X hands down and often you can't even install XP on these systems.
I'd admin as much as I hate XP it is better right now than Linux is but not by much but that little bit is enough. - Posted by: voska Posted on: 05/14/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
