Same old tired story - passing the buck
News Flash: Patch management in Windows Environments is not difficult, nor is it any more time consuming than with any other platform.

For Windows, the tools are out there that make patch management an extrememely easy process. Testing of patches is neccessary for all platforms, and is not any harder on Microsoft platforms than on any other.

We've have had patches for applications on our HP9000 that have completely fubar'd everything duting testing - forcing us to wait a few days for an other patch from the vendor. I've seen it happen with third party programs that run on Windows and even with various ports on my beloved BSD box.

Anyone who claims that patch management it is any easier on non-microsoft platforms probably shouldn't be administring Microsoft (or any) networks.

Testing patches before you deploy them is part of the job of running a network. If you want to run Windows, then you defenitely need a patching strategy, but the tools avaiable to easily impliment a such a strategy are numerous, and work well.

If you don't want to deal with patching Windows, run Linux, or Sun's Java desktop, Macs - or whatever. Just quit it with these lame excuses about the difficulty of Windows patch management - and good luck with your patch strategy on your new platform.

Laziness, apathy, and ignorance are rampant in this world, and it the (Windows) IT community holds no exception.
