You are right - the only way we will get what we deserve is to take it, not wait for someone to confer prosperity upon us.

Unfortunately, the only way to become powerful enough to do that is to form unions / guilds / whatever you want to call them. We need a Screen Actor's Guild for programmers (or join the one that exists already) and use the power of the courts to force things to happen. IOW, the guild must hire an army of lawyers to sue the pants off those that hire H1B's in an illegal manner, practice age discrimination, etc.

Nope - nobody likes this, but the alternative is to take an auto mechanic's job when you get replaced by an H1B or a younger worker. IOW, tech-oblivion.
