What a surprise--the laws of physics once again prove impervious to Congress' wishes.

During the Arab oil embargo in the Carter administration, we switched to year-round DST in an effort to save energy. I remember post-mortems then explaining how people used less energy in the evening, but the extra energy used in the mornings offset any advantage. Plus, kids were standing beside busy streets in the dark waiting for the school buses, so the plan was scrapped as a failure.

That's the great political circle of progress.
