As long as there are people, there will be porn

There have been depictions of the naked human form around for about 25,000 years. The pyramids have bare-breasted women on the friezes, the Romans have naked people in all their art, there are naked people on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, for Pete's sake!

The human form, when you strip (no pun intended) all the conventions of religion and narrow morality, is a symbol of fertility and renewal. When the Garden of Eden was created, God didn't put Adam in a three-piece suit and Eve in a full-length gown; they were naked and it was OK. Only when the whisper of evil was heard did they become ashamed. In all religions, the naked form has a purpose.

In the porn industry, that purpose is magnified and objectified because it is powerful. It gets a reaction, however distasteful it might be, from those who are into that sort of thing.

That's why people get overly worked up about it-the "forbidden fruit" factor is at work. In the US, we tend to try to hide the human form as something to be ashamed of and have vapors over a semi-naked breast. In Europe, that same breast is fully naked and used in soap ads and no one is growing hair on their palms from seeing it.

Yes, there are some sick things out there, but as long as you are talking CONSENTING ADULTS, why should you care? If you don't like it, don't click on the banners. If you do, look all you want, but don't make a big deal about it. If it is illegal (child porn, snuff films, clearly drugged and unknowing participants), report it.

But you really can't banish it from the planet-that would be against human nature.
