It is your switch to the Mac
Office 2007 is awful

Not according to most. This is only 1 review but there are many others like it.

Vi$ta is not selling well (apart from on new machines where users don't have a choice)

Do you not see the delicious irony of someone who started the paragraph with "I switched to a Mac last year" saying that users who buy a new computer don't have a choice about getting Vista? Windows traditionally does not sell many upgrades, most of the revenue comes from new PCs right away and businesses later on. All indications are such that Vista will be no different.

Governments are banning the use of Vista

You are proof that people easily fall for sensational headlines as long as the headline contains something they really, really, really want to read. Just because the word "ban" appeared on the headline does not mean that this is what happened. Governments (and most businesses) have simply made statements that they will not be upgrading until they've studied the situation. This is the same (or should be the same) with every OS upgrade whether it is Windows, Mac OS, or Linux. I shudder to think about any company that upgraded from OS9 to OSX without any testing!

they've never been able to catch Google for search, there's the old XBOX live/PS3 battle, Google office/Open office gaining lots of users, the list goes on

So if MS isn't #1 in something, they've failed? I guess by your measure, OSX has never been able to catch Windows for OSs so OSX is a failure? Competition is good in all those markets you've mentioned. What's the problem?

Has anyone else noticed this, or it is just me because of my switch to Mac?

Well, buying a Mac does seem to dull the senses to any Mac problems and heighten your sensitivity to any problem with anything that isn't Apple so I'd say it is your switch to Mac.
