The Current Windows OS updates were as straightforward (via Windows Update) as the Apple Updates for Mac OS version 10.3 and higher. Both Microsoft and Apple required less automated solutions for older OSes (including Windows 2000, NT, MacOS 10.2.8 and earlier, etc).

Exchange Server is more complicated because data records have to be updated (in addition to the product updates easily done via Microsoft Update). Unfortunantly, Microsoft did a poor job to notify their customer base early enough about Exchange to adequately prepare. This includes both Exchange 2000 (which requires $4000 or upgrading to Exchange 2003/2007 for a complete solution) and 2003 (which has a difficult solution to centrally update or can be done via Outlook).
