- It's bigger than just calendars
- Most databases store time in UTC format. They convert the local time to GMT and store it in the database. So if you scheduled a critical business process 2 months ago before being patched to run on 3/12 at 1pm EST, it was recorded in the database as 3/12 6pm GMT. Now, applying the patch, what do we do with that time? Did you really want it to run at 1pm EST, which would now be 5pm GMT based on the new rules, or was that time based on other international users and it still needs to be 6pm GMT? If it's software that runs a factory or controls international shipments, that 1 hour difference may make a big difference.
