Open source to me is the model that supports the LAST MAN STANDING.

Basically, the company with the deepest pockets benefits.
They reap the benefits from companies contributing code and can bring pricing down or outlast every other company providing a similar service that generates revenue.

This suits IBM the best, since they have the most cash. Companies loose or barely make money, companies competing with others destroy each other, leaving the company thats standing to reap all the benefits.
