So I applied the view that California is averse to spending money on products to cable TV with results that were just as absurd as the actual legislation.

My logic:

If only one output format is permitted, than any feature which produces results which cannot be saved in that format is not as useful as it might be, no?

So competitors are limited in the features they can offer.

And if features are restricted, then product differentials are affected.
