Cable TV IS like software ...
People are OFFERING free software. Many of us are taking up that offer. When someone starts offering free cable service, no doubt municipalities and states will have the OBLIGATION to accept the offer of the lowest bidder. When it comes to ODF, MS has simply been underbid. They can argue all they like about features, but ODF is totally free of restrictions on use and Microsoft's product is not. End of story. Issues of profits and capitalism should not even enter the picture. When something (like air) is available for free, people should not be forced to pay for a competing product that isn't "in order to support capitalism". That argument simply doesn't fly.
