When it wasn't CompUSA, but was still SoftWarehouse, with one hole-in-the-wall store in north Dallas. Back then (mid 80's), they understood service, had bargain prices on software and always seemed to have what I wanted/needed.
Then came the big box version, the changes of name and ownership, and the "I Wanna Be Another Best Buy" version. Yetch! If this is "public" ownership, I want the privately owned version back.
I, too, who once bought nearly everything from SoftWarehouse, seldom buy from CompUSA anymore - they never have what I need. And don't get me started on their "service" branch: they tried to charge me $1300 + labor for a new laptop motherboard (paid $1250 for the machine new). I declined, took the machine home, disassembled it, cleaned it, and it worked fine. I got my $147 "diagnostic" fee back after speaking to the "serice manager."
