- Good thing Apple opened its own stores
-
Before Apple started opening its own retail outlets CompUSA was the only place to buy a Mac, besides the occasional mom & pop Mac stores.
I've gone by my local CompUSA occasionally. It's been kind of depressing to go in there. It doesn't seem as interesting anymore. Maybe it's just me but it's seemed like there's less PC software on the shelves. Their console gaming section has grown to about a quarter of the store. Their electronics section (stereo systems, DVD players, and HDTVs) has grown as well.
Over the last several years CompUSA has had some surprisingly good bargains, even matching or beating what I can find online. When the store first opened here I used to avoid it at all costs. They had THE most expensive prices around. I could never figure out why they were beating Egghead Software (remember that store?). Egghead had good prices on stuff. I think it was when they got bought by the owner in Mexico that their pricing structure changed for the better, even though their employees hated it after that (lower pay and benefits).
I've checked my local news and while they are talking about it, it doesn't sound like my local store is closing, though that could change. - Posted by: Mark Miller Posted on: 03/01/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
