When iTunes first launched....
....he very openly stated that DRM was doomed to failure and was only in there because the RIAA demanded it.

Now, that doesn't excuse his hypocrisy here--he's used that DRM for his own purposes and his own company's profits, and he's refused to release any material through iTunes without DRM (despite the requests of artists and record companies). But you are essentially correct in that the poster above you was wrong when he called it a "180".
