One thing to consider
Apples DRM is what I would consider a "wet paper bag" secure. Apple themselves have told (still tells) their customers how to work around the "DRM". I have yet to meet an ipod user who doesn't and hasn't created their own CDs.

It was and is a dog and pony show for the labels. What Steve loves is ipod sales, the content, they make zero/break even so it really doesn't matter to them if they sell no songs, so long as ipod sales are strong.

Now on the TPM chip, Apple does not sell their OS as a standalone product. The only way to get it off of an Apple machine is to illegally copy it, and guess what, the TPM chip makes the illegal copying not worth it. What evil purpose is the TPM chip performing. You mention it all the time, I'd like to know. In what way does it block legal use? There is no legal expectation to use the Apple OS on non Apple hardware, so, again, what is your beef with it?

I could stand beside you 100% if they sold their OS standalone BUT ALSO required 3rd parties to buy/use/license their TPM chip. They don't, they sell a complete appliance, and one part of the appliance can only work connected to the other half of the appliance.
