Patents are here to stay.
Clint Eastwood said it better.

You have to be kidding. All I said was you need talented folks to decide on what needs patented in a short amount of time.

I thought they were in business.

That is what laws are for. To make sure everyone plays by the rules. Self policing never works and I hope you didn't rely on the thesis paper to be true. Plenty of sociopaths in government also, especially socialistic ones.

Not so. In the past, you had to have a working model in order to patent it. That device was invented or created out of the inventors mind. Otherwise it would be prior art if it already existed. Also patents had to benefit society in some way to be patented. Now it is the first to file. By the way, the patent is disclosed but the details on how to create it is secret, just like engineering drawings. The drawing the USPTO gets is a general idea of methodology like a sales drawing.

You don't deserve anything in return unless you were the inventor. But you do get something in return in the form of better product and goods. What is really wrong is the socialist entitlement society.
