You can't patent that.
I do not believe that you could have patented the idea of putting a radio in a car. You could patent the radio, since it did not exist in history. You probably could not have patented the automobile, since it was just a cart or wagon with a different motive power. (Railroad without rails.)

To maintain your patent on putting a radio in a car, you would have to prove that nobody every picked up a portable radio and got in a car with it. (One vacation photo of uncle Harry, and you lose.)

On the other hand, patenting the vibrator that made the car radio work, or patenting the Thorium cathode, was probably possible.
