Same here..
I was as sociotherapist (specialized in group dynamics) working in psychiatry and drug addiction treatment. Now I work for the same drug addiction treatment center in the IT department devoping the intranet and mangement information webapps. I find my background both helpfull and sometimes a hinderance. When programming i tend to ask "why" to much but in implementing interfaces to webapps it helps me to understand why my collegues in the IT department can work with an interface while the managers are complaining because the webapp is hard to use for them. It also helps in creating a functional design for an app when you understand that when a manager is asking for feature A he actualy means feature B. I feel I have an advantage in communicating with the end user that helps me to build what they actualy want instead of what they "say" they want happy
